Neck & Back Pain Treatment
Neck and back pain is a very common complaint assessed and treated at Castleknock Physiotherapy & Acupuncture Clinic. It is very important to get a full diagnosis and treatment plan for neck and back pain as it can affect all aspects of life including loss of function, sleep loss, absence from work and inability to participate in sports and exercise.
Neck and back pain can manifest itself in many ways, other than simple pain in the area affected, including:
Headaches
Arm or leg pain
Muscular weakness
Referred pain to other parts of the spine and limbs
A crucial component of dealing with neck and back pain is to prevent re-occurrence. This is done by providing you with a sound diagnosis of the initial problem and identifying the most probable cause(s) of the pain. A suitable treatment plan is then devised to leave you stronger, more flexible and better equipped to prevent recurrence in the future.
Education about how your body and mind respond to pain and injury has been shown to accelerate recovery.
Muscle & Joint Pain Treatment
General muscle and joint pain refers to the musculoskeletal system of the body, consisting of the muscles, tendons, ligaments, nerves, cartilage and bones of the body. These can be affected in many ways, including overuse injuries, muscle imbalance, work related injuries, nerve entrapment or pinching, muscle tears, joint irritation and cartilage breakdown.
Some common musculoskeletal conditions that our physiotherapists treat at the clinic include:
- Low Back Pain/Sciatica
- Neck Pain
- Muscle Spasm
- Whiplash
- Prolapsed Disc
- Upper and Lower Limb Joint Pain
- Nerve Entrapment
- Joint Instability
- Muscle Imbalance/Movement Dysfunction
- Post Surgery Care
- Tendonitis
Sports Injuries Treatment
Sports injuries again generally refer to the musculoskeletal system and are often traumatic (i.e. a specific time of injury) but can be due to the overuse or incorrect use of structures (e.g. Achilles Tendonitis).
Some injuries are more common to certain sports, for example, field sports players tend to pick up ankle, knee and shoulder injuries more often than long distance runners, who would be more inclined to suffer from overuse injuries like tendonitis or chronic low back pain.
Our physiotherapists have extensive experience both in playing sports and treating athletes from many sport disciplines.
Some common sports injuries that we treat at the clinic include:
- Sprains
- Muscle Tears, Strains and Ruptures
- Shin Splints
- Knee Cartilage
- Dislocated/Subluxed Shoulders
- Tennis Elbow

Using the latest evidence, we work with our patients in planning a programme of graded return to movement and exercise. Including some education on the biology of pain can help patients to understand why parts of the body hurt after they have had time to heal.
We are committed to helping those with persistent pain to move forward and once again regain control and confidence in their lives.
